Religion.
I first met the Lord at the Walkers Grove Baptist Church at the age of 12 years old.  I strayed away from the Lord.
Came back to the Lord in 1975.  I joined the Emanuel Missionary Baptist Church in Newark New Jersey, where I became a Deacon.
Move to Fort Gaines, in 1986 and join the Springfield Missionary Baptist Church.
I was elected Chairman of the Deacon Board.
The Lord called me into the ministry in 1989.
All the things that were mention above was made possible by the grace of  God I couldn’t not have done it without him.
Who ever is reading this, now or a hundred years from now, keep God in your life.
I wish you great succes, God Bless you all.
Robert (Bob) Rushing

The spirit of the Lord is upon me. He has anointed me to preach the gospel.
Psalm 23
The Lord is my shepherd I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green patures.  He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and staff they comfort me. thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies, thou anointed my head with oil, surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

To Our Children
Bob and Shirley Rushing,

We would like to let you know how much we love you.  We are so proud of you all.
This is just our way of sharing our life with you.  We hope that this will help you in the future.
It’s good to know where you came from - your family history, your "ROOTS" .

Always trust in the Lord and lean not on your own understanding.  In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your path.

Often people have to dig back to find out their family history.  I hope that you have been enlightened a little, so you will have a head start.  So many times Shirley and I sit and wish that we could go back, but we just can’t.
BOB'S TESTIMONY

If you wonder how I did so well  --  a man without a lots of education. I will tell you why.  I learn to put my trust in God and let him guide me. I came up on the rough side of the mountain.
If I had to do it over again I would. You heard me say it was hard. I guess you would want to know why I would do it over again if it was that hard.
Well it’s like this:
  • If I had changed things, I wouldn’t have had the opportunity to enjoy the short life span of my son Robert Jr. nor would I have had the opportunity to see the kind of man that Ken turned out to be. I am so proud of you.
  • If I had changed things I wouldn’t have my Princess to see her big smile.
  • If I had changed things I would not have had to listen so hard to my Kitten purr or hear her say “Oh daddy”.
  • If I had changed things I would not have to hear Shaboo say, "Daddy pick up the phone".
  • If I had changed things, I wouldn’t have had Robot #3 to enjoy the sports that he played.

Kids what I am saying to you in broken language, in my own words.  I love all of you and I am so proud of you.  Thanks for all my grandkids, If I am not here to see Sherri and Robert have me some grandkids. You all make sure their kids see this web page.  Smile all of you

Also, I held on with two things:
  • 1.  I couldn’t have made it without the grace of God
  • 2. Shirley in my life.
She was a lot of help for me, you all just don’t know. She is the one who sent the money when you needed it.  She is the one that encouraged me to stay in touch with all the kids.  Just to say Shirley I love you for that and I am always grateful...  In all my life I have never known a greater stepmother and mother than you.  Remember the Lord is my Shepard and I shall not want.  Other things to remember is written in the word:  I have never seen the righteous forsaken nor his seed beg for bread.  Like Jesus said to his disciples in John 13:34
My greatest wish if I could give you a new commandment it would go like this.
A new commandment I give unto you that you love one another as I have love you. By this all men and women would know that you are my sons and daughters.
I pray to God that he will continue to bless each and every one of you.
Love Your Dad & Mom

My greatest joy in life is the fact that I have the pleasure of knowing my family.  Family is very dear to me.  I am just a people person.
I always had some one's baby.  I was told that I would have a lots of kids; well I guess you can say I did.  I have help raised my nieces and nephews.  Everyone thought Keith and Kevin were my boys.
If anyone would write my life story here are a few notes.
From Fort Gaines, Georgia to Newark New Jersey. 08-1956.
When I was small I would work for Ms. Mathews next door.  She would pay me 75 cents an hour.  I always would keep a little job.  I worked for Ms Vi next.  She was a very large lady that couldn’t do very much.  I can remember if she wanted to know something she would flip a coin to see if it would come true.  I could pick up two and three dollars a day.  I would give them to her.  Her son was name Larry.  I would watch him also.  Ms Taylor was real nice to me.  As I look back I can say I learned from all of them. One lesson I learned was to be independent.
In school I was always quiet.  My mother never had to come to school for me.
I attended the Charlton Street School.
When we were small my younger sister Lois was real sick.  She had to go away to a cardiac hospital for eight months.  When she came home the doctor told us that you couldn’t beat her or get her upset because of her heart.  She would never be able to have children.  That was not true.  She had a baby at the age of fifteen, Barry Boldin.
This is the first real family crisis we had but with the help of the Lord we made it.
Lois and I shared rooms together.  Bobbie was the oldest she had her own room.  My brother’s room was in the front.
I remember when we first moved to New Jersey, I don’t know what I expected. Mother said that we wouldn’t be able to play outside like we did in Georgia.
When we arrived it was nothing that I had imaging.  We lived on the second floor.  Ms Wright was on the first floor.  Ms Wright worked for some rich Jews. She would bring clothes home and give them to us.  I can remember one pleated skirt that we all wore.  They were real nice clothes.  This was a big help for my family.  We all became one happy family.
I joined the Hopewell Baptist Church on Clinton Ave in Newark.  I graduated in 1965 from South Side High School.
I met my first husband Raymond Cantrell in school we were high school sweetheart.
We later married in 12-31-65.  His parents were very dear to me.  I will never forget Mommy and Rev Cantrell.  I don’t know why I didn’t call him dad.  I guess because he was a minister.  The marriage didn’t last we got divorced in 1975.
That when I met my husband Bob.  I must say he was quite different.  My cousin says they look alike.  My friend Dot introduced me to Bob; she was dating his cousin Paul.
That’s been 32 years ago.  We married in 10-03-79 and have been together every since.  No it haven’t been all good but the good times out weight the bad times.  One of the sweetest things my husband ever said to me was.  He missed his kids but, he didn’t regret what happen in his past if it had not he would not have me and Robert.

In 1985 I started working in sales, Rose Marie Collection, We Care.  We won 1st runner   up in 1986.
My parents move to back home so we decided to follow them.  Sometimes I regret it, but I am convinced that this is where God wanted me to be.  I was here when my father went home to be with the Lord.  I will always treasure that moment.
Now I am able to take care of my mom.
